The White Hat & What It Means
Why we use the white hat in our logo
The Calgary White Hat has become an emblematic symbol that celebrates outstanding ambassadors of hospitality, embodying the core values of integrity, western hospitality, pride of place, and commitment to the community. It stands as a proud representation of Calgary’s international recognition for its unparalleled hospitality and deep-rooted Western heritage. The inaugural white cowboy hat made its appearance in 1946, when representatives of Calgary adorned these distinctive hats while passionately supporting the city’s football team, the Calgary Stampeders, during the 1948 Grey Cup—the renowned national football championship of Canada. The sight of the white hats captured the imagination of onlookers and quickly gained popularity.
Today, the Calgary White Hat remains a cherished symbol, symbolizing Calgary’s warm and welcoming spirit. It recognizes individuals and organizations who exemplify exceptional hospitality and contribute to the city’s vibrant community fabric. The white hat serves as a testament to the enduring legacy of Calgary’s commitment to creating memorable experiences and fostering a strong sense of pride in the city’s unique character. As Calgary continues to evolve and embrace its diverse cultural landscape, the Calgary White Hat stands as a powerful symbol that unites residents and visitors alike, fostering a sense of belonging and shared identity. It is a symbol of Calgary’s enduring reputation as a city that embraces hospitality, celebrates its Western roots, and proudly showcases its vibrant community.
